Session 3-2: IT Security is Who You Are, Not Where You Are

Is a prisoner in a locked jail cell more secure – and therefore more eligible for a security clearance – than a soldier in the field? No, because security isn’t about where you are, but who you are. Why should data be any different? Federal agencies are now beginning to recognize that the traditional paradigm of firewall-based security is no longer sufficient in today’s networked world. Agencies across the government are looking to redefine security – based not on where the data sits, but on the content itself. This session will explore the emergence of content-centric security and its integration into the federal technology landscape, including advances in strong encryption, access control, and detailed usage auditing.

Attendees will learn:

  • The expanding scope of the cyber mission
  • An overview of firewall-based security vs. content-based security
  • How agencies are working to secure not just data at rest, but data on the move
  • Where content-centric security fits into an agency’s information security framework

Speakers:

  • Moderator: Rutrell Yasin, Senior Editor, Government Computer News
  • John Landwehr, Senior Director, Enterprise Mobile Solutions, Adobe Systems
  • Dr. Emma Garrison-Alexander, Chief Information Officer, Transportation Security Agency
